چکیده

Water vapour concentrations are measured using the optical absorption of a Zeeman-split emission line of an argon discharge lamp. When a longitudinal magnetic field of the proper magnitude is used to split the emission line, two components of opposite circular polarization are produced: one coincident, and one off-resonance with respect to a water vapour absorption line at 10 687.36 cm−1. Differential absorption is directly measured by alternately selecting the polarization of the light which is allowed to propagate down the optical path into a multipass absorption cell. Water vapour concentration measurements were obtained over a range of over three orders of magnitude (∼0.002–3.0%). The monitor was also shown to act directly as a mixing ratio (mole fraction) sensor (within ±10%) over a pressure range of 0.3–1.2 atm.

Synthesis of Zinc/Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles by Electric Discharge Method in Distilled-Water and Argon-Gas Environments

Zinc/zinc oxide nanoparticles are used in an increasing number of medical and industrial applications due to their attractive physical, chemical and antibacterial properties. Therefore, achieving a simple and beneficial way to produce them is an important aspect. In this study, zinc/zinc oxide nanopowders were synthesized by fast electric discharges between two electrodes of (a) a spark device ...

On Argon-Induced Pressure Shifts of Hg Spectral Lines Associated with Quasi-Rydberg Transitions

In a recent paper Veza et al. [1] reported results of their measurements of argon-pressure-induced shifts of twenty Hg emission lines corresponding to the transitions between the 6p−ns (n = 7, 8) and 6p−nd (n = 6, 7) states. Some of these lines are recommended and used as wavelength standards in plasma spectroscopy. Electrodeless discharge lamps containing Hg vapour and argon at low pressure ar...

Pulsed RF discharges, glow and filamentary mode at atmospheric pressure in argon

The properties of a pulsed radio frequency capacitive discharge are investigated at atmospheric pressure in argon. The discharge can operate in two different modes: a homogeneous glow discharge or turn into filaments. By pulsing the 13.56 MHz generator both the filamentary and the glow modes can be selected depending on the pulse width and period. For a 5μs pulse width (∼70 RF cycles in the pul...

Measured density of copper atoms in the ground and metastable states in argon magnetron discharge correlated with the deposition rate

In a dc-magnetron discharge with argon feed gas, densities of copper atoms in the ground state Cu(S1/2) and metastable state Cu*(D5/2) were measured by resonance absorption technique, using a commercial hollow cathode lamp as light source. The operating conditions were 0.3 14 μbar argon pressure and 10 200 W magnetron discharge power. The deposition rate of copper in a substrate positioned at 1...

Proper integration time of polarization signals of internetwork regions using Sunrise/IMaX data

Distribution of magnetic fields in the quiet-Sun internetwork areas has been affected by weak polarization (in particular Stokes Q and U) signals. To improve the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the weak polarization signals, several approaches, including temporal integrations, have been proposed in the literature. In this study, we aim to investigate a proper temporal-integration time with which...
